Introduction:

What is love, and what does it require of us? In this lecture, Dr. Alexander Pruss, a leading Christian philosopher, examines the relationship between love and responsibility, with particular attention to sexual ethics. Drawing on his book One Body: An Essay in Christian Sexual Ethics, he considers the nature of love, why it seeks union with the beloved, and the significance of the body in sexual union. Rather than presenting Christian sexual ethics as a set of prohibitions, Dr. Pruss offers a rigorous philosophical account of why sexual acts carry intrinsic meaning. The lecture invites young adults of all backgrounds, religious and secular alike, to engage critically with foundational questions about love, embodiment, and the moral life.

Dr. Pruss will deliver his keynote address virtually, with Rev. Prof. James Dominic Rooney, Assistant Professor, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), moderating the event live on-site in Hong Kong. Rev. Prof. Rooney will facilitate the discussion directly and guide local participants—with a special focus on local young adults—as they connect with Dr. Pruss to dive deeper into the evening's topic during the interactive session.
